Financial Governance Committee takes stock of Somalia’s near-term financial challenges

The Financial Governance Committee (FGC) today held its 34th meeting in the Ministry of Finance offices in Mogadishu.

This document presents the Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) for the Somalia Capacity Advancement, Livelihoods and Entrepreneurship, Through Digital Uplift Program (SCALED-UP). The ESMF ensures that the project activities are compliant with the relevant requirements of national policies, regulations and legislations as well as the World Bank Safeguards Policies and Procedures.

MOGADISHU, 11th of March 2019 – Reconstruction of 7 key physical structure projects that are central to revenue mobilization and tax education were launched in the districts of Wadajir, Hodan, Howlwadag, Yaqshid, Hamarweyne and HamarJaJab in Mogadishu today. These include 5 Inland Revenue Offices, Rehabilitation of the Customs Authority Headquarters and a Taxation Training Institute.

Ms. Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), met with Hassan Ali Khaire, Prime Minister of Somalia yesterday in Washington and issued the following statement:

IMF Staff Completes 2019 Article IV Consultation Discussions, Review Visit and Reaches Staff-Level Agreement on a Fourth Staff-Monitored Program with Somalia

The Somali authorities and the IMF reach a staff-level agreement on a fourth Staff-Monitored Program (SMP IV) covering the period May 2019—July 2020.

IMF staff commends the Somali authorities for sustained reform implementation and continued satisfactory performance under successive SMPs.
